War Service: August 1861 full General in command of Confederate Dept No 2, had insufficient troops to hold a very large area, concentrated his army at Corinth, Shiloh (mw). Notes: A close friend of President Davis. It's thought that as a result of an old injury, he had loss of feeling in his leg and this contributed to his bleeding to death at Shiloh.
